What do the CGC grades mean?
The higher the grade on the chart below the rarer the comic would be and so therefore the higher the value. Note that almost no comics in existence have been rated 10.0 It is the equivalent of an Olympics perfect score. Most comics graded as Near Mint in the average comic book speciality store would actually be an 8.0 on this chart and most comics in a local Newsagent would be lucky to be 4.0 These are very harsh and strict grades and even the Official Oversteet Comic Book Price Guide has lowered what it considers to be the top grade from 9.4 to 9.2 Before the 10 point grading system was invented comic professionals used to use the term "Pristine Mint" to refer to any ultra high grade comic. I personally would consider 9.8, 9.9 or 10.0 to be Pristine Mint and 8.5 to 9.6 to be Near Mint. 4.5 to 8.0 to be VG-VF. Most CGC comics graded 3.0 and above would be an excellent addition to any collection! Any older CGC comic pre 1970 in any grade at all is collectable.

Where did you get your statistics from?
The total amount of copies in existence data listed in the information about each comic (if available) has been gathered from the CGC census. Very few comics in total have been certified by the CGC. To put this in perspective the grand total of all CGC comics slabed to date (as of 2020) is 5.8 Million. This is less than the print run of 8.1 Million on X-Men #1 which was a single comic book printed by Marvel Comics in 1991. This just goes to show how rare having any CGC comic actually is when compared to how many comics have been printed and how collectable they are. CGC Comics are an excellent long term investment.
